Your Wurayo Treatment Guide

Preparing for your appointment. Supporting your skin. Protecting your progress.

Preparing for your electrolysis appointment and caring for your skin afterward are essential parts of your permanent hair removal journey. Electrolysis works by treating individual hair follicles with precision. The condition of your skin before and after each appointment can impact your comfort, healing, and overall treatment experience.

Following these recommendations will help prepare your skin, support recovery, and help you make the most of every Wurayo session.

Before your appointment

Arrive with enough hair growth

Electrolysis requires enough visible hair length for your electrologist to safely and accurately grasp each hair. Please avoid waxing, tweezing, threading, and sugaring — these methods remove the follicle target needed for treatment. If needed, trim longer hair carefully, but allow approximately 1/8 inch (about 2–3 days of growth) before your appointment.

Hydrate your skin

Well-hydrated skin supports a more comfortable treatment experience. Drink plenty of water, moisturize your skin consistently, and avoid arriving dehydrated. Healthy, hydrated skin helps your electrologist work more effectively.

Keep your skin barrier healthy

Your skin should be calm and protected before treatment. For at least 24–48 hours before your appointment, avoid retinol products, strong exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA), harsh scrubs, and aggressive skincare treatments. Continue gentle cleansing and moisturizing.

Plan your comfort

Everyone experiences electrolysis differently. Comfort strategies can be discussed during your consultation, including scheduling your appointment when you’re most comfortable, using a topical numbing cream if recommended, or taking appropriate over-the-counter pain medication if suitable for you. Always follow medication instructions and consult your healthcare provider if you have questions.

Reduce skin sensitivity before treatment

On appointment day, we recommend arriving with clean skin, avoiding heavy makeup on the treatment area, limiting alcohol, and staying hydrated. Caffeine may increase sensitivity or anxiety for some clients — if you choose to have caffeine, balance it with additional water intake.

After your appointment

Your skin has received a precise treatment. Now it needs gentle care. Redness, mild swelling, and sensitivity are normal after electrolysis and vary depending on treatment area, hair density, and individual skin response. Most clients experience temporary redness that improves within a few hours.

Keep your skin clean & calm

For the first 24 hours, keep the treated area clean, avoid touching the area unnecessarily, and use clean hands when applying products. Avoid applying unnecessary products that may irritate freshly treated skin.

Soothe & moisturize

Your skin may feel warm, sensitive, or slightly irritated after treatment. Support your skin by applying recommended aftercare products, keeping the area moisturized, and using cool compresses if needed. Wurayo Aftercare Oil is available as a gentle option to support post-treatment skin care.

Protect your skin while it heals

For 24–48 hours after treatment, avoid excessive sweating, hot tubs and saunas, swimming pools, direct sun exposure, tanning, harsh skincare products, and exfoliation. Your skin needs time to recover.

Do not pick or scratch

Small bumps or tiny scabs can occasionally occur as your skin heals — this is normal. Avoid picking, scratching, or removing scabs prematurely. Allow your skin to naturally recover to reduce the risk of irritation or discoloration.

Makeup & skincare after facial treatments

If you receive facial electrolysis, wait until your skin has calmed before applying makeup. When returning to cosmetics, use clean brushes, avoid expired products, and avoid heavy coverage immediately after treatment. Fresh, clean products reduce the chance of irritation.

Your visit, start to finish

Arriving

Park at the door and come straight in — there is no waiting room to sit in, because only one client is booked at a time. Bags and coats go in the room with you.

Settling in

We talk for a few minutes: how the last session healed, what has changed, anything new in medication or hormones. Then you get comfortable on the treatment bed under a light blanket.

During treatment

Magnification and a lamp come over the area, a new sterile probe is opened in front of you, and we begin. You will feel brief warmth at each follicle. Say the word and we pause, slow down, or adjust intensity — that is not an inconvenience, it is part of the work.

Finishing

A soothing application, a look at what was cleared, and a quick note of where we start next time. Expect mild redness for a few hours.

Leaving

Rebook before you go, take your written aftercare, and message any time between visits with questions.

Supporting your skin from within

Your skin heals from the inside out. Support your body’s recovery by drinking enough water, eating nutrient-rich foods, prioritizing protein and healthy fats, and including fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Healthy habits support healthy skin.
